Jack Your Metabolism and Get Ripped During Off Days

It's 8:45 AM. The dew is still on the ground. Sweat pours from your face and stings your eyes. You hear huffing and puffing all around you. You look up and see 40 yards of open field waiting for you to conquer. You hear the whistle and let out a primordial scream. You take off and it feels like your legs are on fire and your lungs are going to burst out of your chest. You collapse as you cross the finish line. Chest heaving, legs shaking, you make it over to where your team is gathered and you take a knee. It is the end of the first practice of two-a-day #1.

For many of us this was what high school was all about. Sprints and lifting, sprints and lifting and some practice thrown in there as well. As hard as it was, you were jacked and ripped. Then life hit you. You maybe strong, but you have a little extra layer of "person" on you. Fret not, because below we are going to show you how to get back to that phase. We are going to show you how to get ripped.

1. Intervals: Intervals involve spurts of work followed by periods of rest. The intensity can vary, but the concept is still the same, work and rest. The work/rest ratio should be tailored to the type of sport you are participating in, but for general fitness, I would recommend 30s of sprinting followed by 30s of rest. Interval training can be done on a elliptical machine, a bike, a treadmill, or even a track in the form of Fartlek runs. Intervals are like a blow torch to your metabolism. They will keep it elevated long after you step off the track and your net caloric expenditure will be much greater than low intensity steady state cardio.

2. Lets face it; if you have a Prowler you know how kick ass it is in terms of conditioning. However, if you don't have one, you can still get into sick shape. If you have a sled or even a tire you strap it around your waist (with a belt of course) and run sprints. Also push an Olympic plate around the gym will also force your body to work harder than it normally does. The angle, the weight, the work-they all come into play when doing these. These are best done after your lower body training sessions.

3. On off days or deload weeks don't just sit around. Utilize what is known as active rest to help your body recover and get some conditioning in. If you lift 3-days a week, play pick up basketball, play tennis, swim. Just be active. Not only will it keep your competitive juices flowing, but it will also help the body to get blood flowing which will help accelerate recovery via delivering oxygen and other valuable nutrients to the muscles.

Simply put, there is no excuse for being strong, yet outta shape. It's not what an athlete does. Always remember, once in athlete always an athlete.

5) Limit your consumption of fish to no more than once or twice per week. Fish is loaded with PCB's and dioxins that you should really avoid as much as possible. You should also support clean water laws and organizations like Waterkeeper.

6) Only drink purified water. Our water quality continues to worsen all the time and is filled with numerous toxins and estrogenic compounds.

7) Consume citrus fruits regularly.

8) Eat lots of cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower.

9) If you must drink alcohol try to avoid beer as much as you can because it is highly estrogenic; thus the acclimation of a beer belly. Red wine is a far better choice and may actually be anti estrogenic.

10) Eat a good amount of organic nuts and seeds. A high intake of organic nuts has been linked to increased virility in men.

11) And finally, be sure to only train with short, high intensity workouts that actually boost testosterone levels and decrease estrogen. This includes resistance training and energy system work. Unfortunately, the wrong training program can actually make things worse instead of better.

From Skeptic to Enthusiast – My Review of IWinButtons

If you're like I am, then when you hear that a new guide for World of Warcraft Cataclysm has come out, and is the best thing since sliced bread (or perhaps Darnassus Marzipan), then you are inclined to take it with a grain of salt. I have only occasionally seen a guide live up to its hype in every way. Which is why I was very pleasantly surprised by IWinButtons – A Definitive Guide to Macros and Keybinds, which really does deliver powerful, effective techniques for improving your game and being a lot more successful at whatever part of it you prefer to do – or all of at once, if you're good at multitasking.
IWinButtons is the first guide that I'm aware of to tackle the subject of macros and keybindings head on, and to do so with impressive professionalism and style. This is no ivory tower theorizing, but a compilation of dozens – probably hundreds – of macros and keybindings which are not only up to date with the latest developments in WoW, but have actually been stress tested in some of the game's most dangerous arenas and raids, honed, and proven to be effective.
Although it's true that you could eventually discover some fairly similar macros and keybindings by searching on the Internet, this is time consuming and will return a lot of very low quality results – with no indication as to which advice is good, and which isn't.
The macros and keybindings in the IWinButtons guide were clearly carefully chosen and tested, because I haven't found a "clunker" in the lot yet. The guide covers all classes, a host of different situations (PvE questing, dungeons, raiding, battlegrounds, arenas), and even shows you what to avoid when setting up your macros and keybindings.

The author avoids both the temptation to use obscure terminology to get his points across, and the equally large temptation to oversimplify in the name of making the guide accessible. The guide is highly accessible without being "dumbed down", and as a player of the game, I appreciate that the writer has made the guide clear and easy to understand, but also doesn't talk to me like I'm a slow-witted murloc. It's useful, interesting, and well written, and strikes a number of balances very successfully.
Although no product is perfect, I have no hesitation in recommending IWinButtons to anyone who wants to make their character far more effective than they will be if you keep limping along with clicking and a few half-worthwhile macros. The guide delivers amply on its promises and will help to improve your game – probably hugely – regardless of whether you're interested in PvE, PvP, or a mix of both.
