Do I need an alt in Guild Wars 2?

If you sit and read the articles posted all over the internet, you will come to the conclusion that Guild Wars 2 is a game that is laid in its entirety from the start. It doesn't need you to get to a certain level to do something, (well, only the dungeons, maybe, but getting them all at level 1 would just get you stomped so you really need that extra training). If you want to PvP right from the start, you can do that. If you want to go and take part of the great World PvP, you can do so as you create your character. PvE is something that it isn't forced down your throat and you can do it at your own pace and more importantly, in what order you like, thanks to the dynamic leveling system that lets you take part of an experience even if you outleveled the certain area. Not to mention the fact that you can look exactly how you want thanks to the Transmutation Stones or that you can have all the crafting professions on only one character.

If you come to think about it, above are all the reasons why you had to create an alt in the other MMOs you played. You either needed a strong character for PvP, wanted to explore different starting areas and stories, you needed an extra crafting profession to get some gold or just because you got bored of your ugly character.

So, do you still need an alt in Guild Wars 2 if all of the problems have been solved? Some might argue that you don't and they would be absolutely right. But why should you create another character? The only reason would be to experiment with another profession.

Your character's profession and race are the only two things you can't change about it. You are stuck with them forever and some might get really curious about how the other professions will work out. But this will probably happen very late, after months of playing and exploring the complexity of its current profession.

So, do you need an alt in Guild Wars 2? No, not really. Can you create one just to explore the awesomeness of the other races and professions in the game, burning through levels and passing items from your main? Totally worth it!
